How the numbers are worked out
| Metric | Definition |
|---|---|
| WPM | Correctly typed characters ÷ 5, divided by minutes elapsed. Five characters is the standard definition of a "word". |
| Accuracy | Correct keystrokes ÷ total keystrokes, including ones you later corrected. |
| Characters | Total keystrokes typed during the run. |
For reference: around 40 WPM is a typical adult typing speed, 60–70 WPM is fast, and professional transcriptionists often work above 90 WPM.
Good to know
- WPM uses the standard definition of five characters per word, counting only correctly typed characters.
