Good to know

  • A rise from 40 to 50 is a 25% increase, but a fall from 50 back to 40 is a 20% decrease — the base changes.
  • Removing a percentage is not the inverse of adding one: taking 20% off 100 gives 80, but adding 20% to 80 gives 96.
